Since 2010, the Bluegrass Sports Commission has had the privilege of awarding the game MVP award to the most outstanding player in the Battle of the Bluegrass, the annual meeting between the University of Kentucky’s and the University of Louisville’s basketball teams.”
The award goes to the game’s player who gave an exceptional performance and/or had the biggest impact on the outcome of the game.
The MVP receives a championship belt from the Bluegrass Sports Commission.
Mikel Brown Jr
Mikel Brown Jr was named MVP of the 2025 match-up after leading all scorers with 29 points while shooting 8/16 from the field and 10/11 from the free throw line. Brown Jr also added 5 assists and 2 rebounds in the #12 Cardinals’ 96-88 win over the #9 Wildcats.
This was the first matchup with both teams being ranked since the 2019-2020 season.
