2017 USA Ultimate DIII College Championships to be Held at Kentucky Horse Park

LEXINGTON – Spirit of the Game will soon be center stage as we welcome hundreds of college athletes, coaches, parents and fans from around the nation for the 2017 USA Ultimate D-III College Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park polo fields. This is the first time the championships will be hosted in Lexington.

Beginning at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, and continuing through Sunday, May 21, at 4:00 p.m., the public is welcome to come experience the fast-growing sport that is played in over 80 countries by an estimated seven million men and women, girls and boys. Admission is free!

Thirty-two teams from around the country will participate in this tournament, with as many as 12 games going on at any given time until the championship games on Sunday. Championship finals start at 2:30 p.m.

Bluegrass Ultimate, the local ultimate organization planning the tournament, will be offering three Learn to Play events for beginners of all ages: two sessions on Saturday, one at 11:00 a.m., and one at 2:00 p.m., as well as one session on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The workshops are free! This is a great opportunity to learn how to play ultimate. Local coaches and elite players will be on-site to coach those who attend the clinics.

During the tournament, local Lexington food trucks will be on-site for players and spectators. Spectators are welcome to bring their own food and beverage, but no alcohol, to the fields to watch games. Seating will be limited; it is encouraged to bring lawn chairs for additional seating.

Merchandise tents will offer ultimate gear from USA Ultimate and other popular ultimate apparel companies. Gear from Five Ultimate and Spin Ultimate will be available for purchase with cash or credit cards.

USA Ultimate is the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States. The organization hosts programs and events to create playing opportunities and advance the sport through character, community and competition with the help of volunteers across the nation.
